Change of balances in one month windows. Increase (top) and decrease (bottom, vertical axis is inverted) of node balances in one month windows as a function of their balance at the beginning of each month. We show the raw data (red), the average (green), median (blue) and logarithmic average (magenta). The later three are calculated for logarithmically sized bins. We find a clear positive correlation: addresses with high balance typically increase their wealth more than addresses with low balance. The median and the logarithmic average values almost coincide, which suggests multiplicative fluctuations. The median and the logarithmic average increase approximately as powerlaws for several orders of magnitude. The black line is a power-law fit for the double logarithmic data; the exponent is 0.857. doi:10.1371/journal.pone.0072420.g0010

CS 224W Project Report Network Analysis of Weighted Signed Bitcoin Networks
Bitcoin has become an increasingly popular cryptocurrency because of the anonymity it offers. Any transaction between two bitcoin users is stored in a public ledger (called blockchain). While there has been analysis of various Bitcoin networks [RS12, FKP14, OKH13], most of the papers consider only unsigned Bitcoin networks and only do basic analysis of the transaction graph, such as amount of b...
متن کاملEmpirical Analysis of Crypto Currencies
Analysis of the currency networks is not easy as the transactions are not centralized but rather take place over a large number of banks and commercial entities. Digital crypto currencies, however, require a public ledger to work and provide an opportunity for analysis of currency transactions. A crypto currency is a medium of exchange using cryptography to secure the transactions and to contro...
متن کاملBitcoin Transaction Malleability and MtGox
In Bitcoin, transaction malleability describes the fact that the signatures that prove the ownership of bitcoins being transferred in a transaction do not provide any integrity guarantee for the signatures themselves. This allows an attacker to mount a malleability attack in which it intercepts, modifies, and rebroadcasts a transaction, causing the transaction issuer to believe that the origina...
متن کاملOn Offline Payments with Bitcoin
Bitcoin [2] is a decentralized digital currency which relies neither on banks nor on any other central authority for issuing of coins or transaction verification. Currently, Bitcoin experiences enormous success driven by large interest from users, politics, but also by speculation. Particularly, despite being conjured to be a giant bubble, the value of a bitcoin increased from USD $5 in May 201...
متن کاملStructure and Anonymity of the Bitcoin Transaction Graph
The Bitcoin network of decentralized payment transactions has attracted a lot of attention from both Internet users and researchers in recent years. Bitcoin utilizes a peer-to-peer network to issue anonymous payment transactions between different users. In the currently used Bitcoin clients, the full transaction history is available at each node of the network to prevent double spending without...
